Zuzana Vasko is an artist-scholar and educator deeply interested in integrating arts-based approaches and holistic connections with local ecologies into a variety of learning/teaching contexts.

Her art practice inquires into interspecies commonalities, the effects of climate change on local ecologies, the power of noticing the humble in nature, and human-nature connections, wisdom and lore. Much of her work is done on, and in homage to, ecosystems on the traditional lands of the Katzie, Kwantlen and Sto:lo peoples.

Zuzana’s research explores how arts and aesthetic practices engender meaningfully personal connections with place, and with the more-than-human world.  She has published on aesthetic and contemplative ways in relating to local nature, the phenomenological qualities shared by arts practice and immersion in nature, and finding kin in local forests, among other topics.

Zuzana teaches with the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, where she has taught a variety of Arts-Based and General Education courses. Wherever possible and appropriate, she incorporates holistic ecological awareness through experiential, creative and reflective forms of learning.
